The Mirror | graphic series

The main conceptof my graphic series, The Mirror, is toshow love relation between two people. It’s a very intimate, personalreflection on love complications. What’s really interesting in that problem isthe human emotional and ethical condition in our contemporary world. That’s a very good pretext to ask veryuniversal questions about human relations, intimacy, loneliness and transience.That’s a story about how two people coexist in a relationship, and also abouttheir emotional and psychological interaction.

Whenlooking for a title, I was aware that it has to be something that allows manyinterpretations and meanings, just like love relations are.

First ofall, by using the mirror we can come to meetourselves, and see our own reflection. It works in a similar way in relationshipsbetween two people. They come to see eachother, and at the same time, see theirown reflection in other person’s eyes. That’s also the right moment to ask thequestion about very own identity, personality and personal freedom. There’s a reason for Polish and Yiddishproverb “Eyes are the mirror of soul” - wewant to look deeper for the essence of human nature. And at last but not least,we know the magical meaning of the mirror in fairy tales, old wifes’ tales, andlegends as a gate to parallel reality and time.

Formalaspects are also relevant to the title of work. The composition of elements is based on overlapping, corresponding andreflecting elements. Those elements are repetitive modules I used to suggestthe stories I’m presenting are a continuous process of searching for love. Thewhole series has open composition. Each graphic is a part of series but can still exist as an autonomic work.

TheMirrorgraphic series is made in etching and mixed technique (100x70 cm).

Pinazo in Valencia (Spain). The exhibition will last from September 15 to October 30,
2011.

The "Travelling Art" project description:

INTERNATIONAL CROSSWORD-POLYPTYCH OF ART PHOTOGRAPHY.
International Exhibition of photographs of trip with mobile phone or
digital camera during the months of July and August 2011, in order to create a
network of artistic communication between different countries, where the visual
dialogue between painters, photographers, sculptors, designers, illustrators and
artists from different countries, serves as a nexus of cultural and artistic
exchange.

Deputy Director of Department of Drawing at the Faculty of San Carlos of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia

I was invited to take part in the exhibition by the curator, Victoria Cano. I think that it's a wonderful idea, to make a common platform for the artists from different countries, creating in various mediums! I also like the idea of the place for the exhibition, as an intervention in public space. I had a wonderful time preparing myself for that event! It feels like summer, it feels like freedom, it feels like a journey!

ANIMAL INSTINCT by Lola Fischer in "Reconsidering Earth" exhibition

Title: Animal Instinct
Technic: Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 100x120 cm

I’ve chosen to interpret the word environment on two levels of meaning. First of all as the natural environment (all living and non-living things that occur naturally on Earth), and second of all as the social environment (the culture that an individual lives in, and the people and institutions with whom they interact). On that base, I’ve made a metaphor between that two meanings. I used two mechanisms from natural environment, such as animal instinct and atavism to illustrate human relations. To illustrate the problem , I chose to use the silhouette of most popular human’s friend, the dog. That makes the analogy more imaginative. Dog is quite popular in pop culture, which makes the work more ambiguous.
Also, the main inspiration for the work have been the dogs fights. Those kind of entertainment is illegal and inhuman. That dirty business is one of the most cruel and disgusting example of human intrusion in natural environment.

I'm glad to announce that my work has been selected for X International Biennial of Engraving Acqui 2011 in Italy. The biennial exhibition will be officially opened on Saturday, June 18th 2011 on the X International Biennial Opening Ceremony for Printmaking in Acqui. It's a huge distinction for me.

„ Love in Yellow Glove” is considered as a very controversial painting. For me, it is a lyrical story about love and erotism. The painting took part in a „Painting of the Year” competition and was published on the magazine’s website. Surprisingly, the same painting was deleted from MySpace for being offensive and pornographic.

I would like to show you one of my favourite pictures -"The Maternity". I feel really sentimental for that work. Watching one of my models (who was pregnant that time) was an inspiring observation about the mystery of life. This painting was a revolution in my way of thinking about art and creation.

"The Maternity" was succesfully exposed in the exhibition called "Fetish" in "Gologorski Gallery"(Cracow 2007).
